A pair of women' legs in front of a hedge. The legs of the jeans are slightly pulled up to show some striped socks

We are often asked at shows what to make with our sock sets and Lineage was designed with these in mind.  Unisex socks for nearly all the family with contrasting stripes and toes.  It is also an excellent pattern to use up all those scraps loitering in your stash, not only can you use up those odd few yards for individual stripes, you can also knit the ribs, heels and toes in assorted colours. A complete kaleidoscope of colour.

If you knit a pair of adult socks you’ll probably have enough left from the sock set to make a ‘mini me’ pair.

The leg is worked in a rib and garter pattern and the heel flap is also edged with garter stitch.  Garter Stitch is a great edging for picking up stitches, just slide a spare double pointed needle under the purl bumps then knit straight off the needle.  If you are like me, easily distracted, and you’ve lost count of how many heel flap rows you’ve worked, just count the number of garter ridges and multiply by two.

Two children's socks in different sizes. one in pink and the smaller one in green

The children’s sizes take tiny amounts of yarn, you just need to find children to knit for!

We’d like to thank Elaine, Lynda and Margot for testing the pattern and giving us very useful advice.  Thank you all.
