Concorde    #concordehat

The graphic patterning of this hat reminds us of the iconic silhouette of the passenger jet Concorde. Our Dad worked on the electronics so we would all dive outside to see it fly over in the 70s and 80s, like a Spitfire, you couldn’t mistake the sound of it.
For a slouchier fitting hat work one or two extra repeats of chart A

Techniques
For the sample we used the Alternate Cable-Cast on for 2 x 2 rib and joined in the round after working the first row of rib pattern. https://www.sistermountain.com/blog/alternating-cable-cast-on

Or use your preferred stretchy cast-on for knitting in the round

Cast On and Work Brim
Using the 2.75mm/US 2 circular needles cast on 132 (156) sts using MC. Join to work in the round being careful not to twist the cast-on edge. Place a marker for start of the round.
Round 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
Last round sets 2 x 2 rib.
Repeat last round a further 13 times.

Work Hat Body
Change to 3.25mm/US 3 needles.

Increase round: K6, M1, *k11 (13), M1; rep from * to last 5 (7) sts, k to end. 144 (168) sts
Join in CC. Using the Fair Isle technique, reading each row from right to left, work Chart A, repeating the 12 st patt 12 (14) times across the round.**
Repeat Chart A a further 6 (7) times, a total of 42 (48) rounds.

Crown Shaping
Begin working from row 1 of Chart B, changing colour and working the decreases in the colour indicated. Repeat the chart 12 (14) times across each round. Change to double-pointed needles when necessary and continue until all 21 rounds are complete.
12 (14) sts remain.

Finishing
Break the yarn leaving a good length to fasten off, use a tapestry needle to thread through the remaining stitches. Remove from the needles and pull tight to secure. Weave in all ends then soak in lukewarm water for a good 20 minutes. Wrap in a towel and press out as much water as possible. Block flat or over a suitable sized bowl or balloon and leave to dry thoroughly.
