Mareel contains elements of two classic shawl designs a Pi shawl and a Shetland Hap.  The centre is worked as a half Pi shawl, from which the striped feather and fan border continues with shaping worked into the feather and fan pattern.  The edging is then knit sideways onto the live border stitches.

Yarn: Sport weight wool or wool blend yarn

Worked seamlessly from the top down, Wee Chickadee is the perfect introduction to both this style of garment construction and stranded colourwork. There are only eight purl rows worked in two colours so the bulk (and potential scariness) of cutting / steeking your knitting is avoided. Sized from three months to four years with garter stitch cuffs that look equally good folded up or down.

Yarn: Fingering/4ply weight yarn with good elasticity

Needles: 3.25mm 60cm circular
3.25mm DPNs or circulars for sleeves
